PLADEVALL VIRTUAL PROJECTS
ARTISTIC NOTES
The project is related to the whole set of my sculptural dreams. I think everything the human mind can imagine is feasible. Working “without limits” on an infinite number of sculptural ideas and in all kinds of environments (real, virtual, urban and natural) has been a great spur to starting this work.
Ocean Arc and Organic Shadow, conceived for the city of Sydney, with my friend and colleague Xavier Verdaguer and his BCN Infografia team, opened my eyes to the huge possibilities of these techniques. The discovery was not a total novelty, since I had already worked with Eusebi Baucells using autocad for the Androgyne Planet project (for the Atlanta ‘96 Cultural Olympiad). Now I have decided to investigate the “virtual” possibilities of my sculpture.
The works are designed to be made and, even though some of them will only exist in the virtual world, they will all become real in the world of ideas. I have always defended the classic, or even ancestral, concept of sculpture linked to matter, energy and man’s desire for communication with nature. Stonehenge, the statues on Easter Island or the pyramids of Egypt… I think they are works that emerge directly from their creators’ dreams and, for that very reason, are an important reference.
Art is a source of knowledge comparable to nature, to the senses or thought and becomes its tangible expression. In that way, I understand this project as an artistic idea in its totality.
